Oral Minoxidil should be avoided if you have:
- Known drug allergy to Minoxidil pills – Note, oral minoxidil is safe if you have reacted to topical minoxidil (Thearinou et al 2020)
- Orthostatic Hypotension
- Pheochromocytoma
- Pulmonary hypertension with mitral stenosis
- Severe liver impairment
- Chronic kidney disease
- Chest pain or recent myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- Left ventricular hypertrophy
- Heart failure
- Pregnancy - While there are no known risks, there are a lack of studies to prove safety in pregnancy
