The most common side effect (rash, irritation) that individuals have with topical medications for hair growth is due to the harsh preservative propylene glycol. Blends™ custom topical formulas are not mass-produced, off the shelf medications. These drugs have been specially compounded and individualized for you.
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Blends™ custom topical formulas contain one or more of the following ingredients:
- Finasteride
- Dutasteride
- Minoxidil
- Tretinoin
- Latanoprost
- Ketoconazole
ALLERGIES
Blends™ custom topical formulas may cause an allergic reaction if you are allergic to similar medications or components. If you are allergic to any of the active ingredients in your compound, please stop the medicine, reach out to us and see a doctor.
Signs of an allergic reaction can include, but are not limited to, hives, rash, blistered skin, trouble breathing, tightness in the chest and/or throat.
SIDE EFFECTS
You may experience side effects with these medications which may go away with time and daily use. If the symptoms are severe and/or not improving with time, please reach out to your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
- Itching
- Redness
- Dryness
- Increased sensitivity to the sun
- Dizziness

CONDITIONS
Treating hair loss with this medication could take 3-6 months of appropriate use to see the full effect.

Special consideration for compounds containing Finasteride and/or Dutasteride
Pregnancy
Compounds containing finasteride or dutasteride, are contraindicated in pregnancy. Women who are planning to get pregnant, are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid contact with finasteride and/or dutasteride. Pregnant people must not handle finasteride and/or dutasteride and if exposed, wash the area with soap and water immediately. Contact your healthcare provider for additional guidance.
Tretinoin and Spironolactone may cause harm to the unborn baby if you are taking while pregnant. If you are pregnant or get pregnant while taking this drug, or are breastfeeding, stop using the medication, and call your doctor right away.
Men’s Health
Finasteride and Dutasteride when taken orally may men’s health side effects in approximately 1.5% of the population. The risk of such side effects when used topically is significantly less, but not zero. Finasteride and Dutasteride when taken orally have been shown to decrease blood PSA levels in men, please discuss with your healthcare provider prior to starting this medication. This is especially important for men who are being treated/followed for prostate cancer, or have a strong family history of prostate cancer. In rare cases, Finasteride and Dutasteride have been linked to changes in breast tissue including lumps and discharge. Advise your healthcare provider immediately if you notice any such changes, as they could be associated with breast cancer. Finasteride and Dutasteride can cause erectile dysfunction, and can affect fertility. Talk to your healthcare provider if you are having any of these symptoms.
Mental Health
Finasteride and Dutasteride can under rare circumstances affect mood, leading to symptoms such as but not limited to depression, brain fog, and decreased interest levels. Such symptoms could be amplified in individuals with a history of mental health disorders. If you have a history of depression or other mental health disorders, discuss with your healthcare provider if this medication is safe for you. If you have any active symptoms of depression prior to or while using this medication, you should stop taking the medication and talk to your healthcare provider immediately.
Storage & Disposal
Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep all drugs in a safe place, and away from children and pets.
Do not throw away unused or expired drugs. Do not flush down the toilet or pour down the drain unless you are told to do so by your healthcare provider. Check with your pharmacist if you have questions on the best way to throw away your medication. There may be take-back programs in your area.
